Notes from the Round Hill Town Council meeting March
18, 2004, pertaining to testing for lead in the Town's water supply
In light of recent concerns regarding lead in municipal water supplies in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, at its meeting March 18, the Round Hill Town Council discussed the Town's water testing policies. Through the course of the discussion, it was determined that per state mandate, the municipal water supply is tested annually for various contaminants, including lead. There are 10 sites throughout Town from which samples are routinely taken. The most recent tests show only trace amounts of lead in the water, below levels of concern. Copies of the tests' reports are sent out annually to all water customers and are also available at Town Hall. There was discussion pertaining to conducting tests for lead in areas beyond the Town limits. However, the consensus was that since newer developments do not use galvanized pipes or lead solder, additional testing is not necessary. It is Town policy that if a citizen requests a specific test, the Town will have a test conducted. If the test turns up a problem, the Town will assume the cost of the test and the cost to fix the problem. If no issues are found, the cost of the test will be assumed by the requesting citizen.
